#3 Australia Vs. The World in ECEC provision / Where to now for educators?

Lisa, Leanne and Liam are back again to discuss:

  • Why Australia’s performance in the provision of early childhood education is so poor when compared to other countries (check out the Growing Strong IV report from the OECD for a very in-depth look at the numbers on this); and

  • What is the way forward for early childhood educators in Australia facing professional development issues and unclear solutions to poor wages.

News of the Week

An online series has launched which takes a satirical look at an early childhood education and care service. Little Acorns can be viewed on YouTube here, and the ABC have interviewed the creators here.

Liam: The Boyer Lecture Series - UK expert Sir Michael Marmot is currently giving a series of lectures on health, wellbeing and inequality. The second of these lectures will focus on early childhood development, but they are all worth listening to.

Lisa: Early Childhood and Child Care in Summary - Data-rich regular overviews of numbers in the ECEC sector published by the Department of Education, from numbers of children attending to the number of centres currently operating. The most recent report (September 2015) can be viewed here.

Leanne: Time for Australia to provide preschool education for all three year olds? - Stacey Fox takes a look at Australia’s investment in early childhood education in this article for The Conversation.
